Exploring an Unique Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Turdy Character in a Mission to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous interesting independent titles. Yet, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure features a character that is literally a turd trying to navigate to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: just use a single jump button. In one hundred fifty challenges, encounter mini-bosses and unlock a shop to buy skins for your poop character.
Time your actions with caution, since one error means beginning again. Bounce off floating orbs to launch yourself upward, cross disappearing surfaces, and interact with switches to open new areas. Gather UN-KOINS to purchase tougher game content as the action intensifies.
Graphically, the demo features neon stages and catchy background music. The simple art featuring morphing basic polygons could recall gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although difficult to think of previous releases where you control a coiled turd, video games often incorporated scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make grenades from character waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as fertilizer. And of course, this theme shows up extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable accolades, including being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is ready currently on Steam, with the final release set to arrive on Steam in the fall.
